A friend of mine challenged a group of us to go a whole week without saying anything negative.
Every time we were tempted to say something not-so-positive we were supposed to hold it back, bite our tongues or clamp our hand over our mouth to keep it from spewing everywhere.
I'll admit, at the beginning I shrugged and thought "no big deal". I thought I was a fairly positive person already. What could go wrong?
Challenge accepted.
Not five hours in, I caught myself saying something not so positive.
Rats!
I don't gamble, but had we put money on it, by the end of the week I would have run up a decent-sized bill.
Negative words are like poisonous darts aimed at your potential. The more you shoot them out of your mouth, the more opportunities you have to kill your growth. This can be especially true for your work, your relationships and your outlook on life.
The more you say that is negative, the less room (and time) you have left to say something positive.
Or you could say it like this: negativity drains what positivity makes to flourish.
I would challenge you to consider taking on a challenge like this one: no negative words for an entire week, and see if you catch yourself throwing darts (I mean negative words) at your personal growth.
As for me, my friends and I have pushed our one week challenge out to an entire month. After that, we plan to continue on for many more.
I'll be the first to tell you that we aren't perfect at it. Sometimes a not so positive word comes out so fast we hardly have time enough to catch it. But since starting the challenge, we are leaps and bounds beyond where we once were on the way to a better, more positive tomorrow.
What about you?
Want to take the challenge too?
No negative words.
